A new year often arrives carrying pressures. New habits. New goals. A new version of yourself. Ready. Set. Go.
I’m already Exhausted. Excellent.
Lately, I’ve been thinking about another approach, something I recently heard called a life audit.
The word audit can sound intimidating and businessy. According to Merriam-Webster, an audit is “a formal examination of an organization’s or individual’s accounts or records.” Not exactly cozy language. But when you strip it down, an audit is really just about paying attention and taking stock of what’s there and perhaps what isn’t.
And maybe that’s worth doing, especially now.
A life audit doesn’t have to be dramatic or exhaustive. It can be as simple as pausing long enough to ask a few honest questions around what is working, what isn’t, what is giving energy vs. what is taking it? And then, what small steps would help things feel lighter or clearer?
For me, these kinds of reflections can easily feel bigger than they actually are. So instead of overthinking it, I tried something simple: I wrote a short list in my phone.
Not a complete overhaul. Just a “focus on this” and “shed this” for the year ahead.
What I realized is that this kind of audit isn’t about judgment or fixing yourself. It’s about alignment. It’s about choosing where your attention, energy, and care go next.
In that way, this connects closely to the idea of living into the highest version of yourself. Not by becoming someone new, but by making small, intentional choices that support who you already are and are meant to be.
Maybe this year doesn’t need a reinvention.
Maybe it just needs a little intention.
Warmly,
