A number of years ago, I learned that author Elizabeth Gilbert connects to her god through writing. An exercise she’s been challenging herself and others with is by writing a letter from the perspective of love. I’ve been wanting to try, so here is my humble attempt, to write from the heart - or inner wisdom - about love from the perspective of love. Happy Valentine’s Day.

A letter from love

I’m here. I’m within. I’m a feeling, deep within you, in the area behind your sternum and above your stomach. Not in the heart, but more internal, deeper.

I am a feeling, something that’s hard to write and describe. I’m an inner warmth that has the capacity to grow, beyond my space, I ebb and I flow.

You don’t often notice me, but I am actually there. I’m an internal warmth.

You just walked in from the outside, where it was cold, your extremities felt it.

And yet, here I am, within you, warm, consistent, ever-present.

Like a log on a fire that’s well tended to without anyone there to tend it.

I am here, I am within you.

Now that you are noticing me, you can feel my presence.

You often feel lonely but in fact, are not alone.

This inner warmth you feel that you’re focusing on, that’s me.

I am here, steady, lasting. You don’t have to search for me, or worry that I’ll run away or dim.

I am simply here. If you'll allow me to be your focus for a moment, let me know what you see, what you feel.

The phrase “you are enough” comes up but that doesn't feel right. It’s more of a completeness, a fullness, an ever-lasting-ness.

I know you’re always tired, always searching, always wondering, always validating, but please know that you are, in fact, here, like I am here, I am your fullest self.

And with that knowing, I hope you find solitude because I am, in fact, here - never-fading, you simply have to to notice, and your worries will disappear because you’ll know that no matter what, you are here, complete, and have an inner warmth that you can choose to nurture within you, as it guides you, like flame for a moth. And,that this feeling, this fulness, does, in fact, have the capacity to grow, to overspill outside of your bounds into the vastness outside of your realm, where you wonder, worry, focus externally.

Like I said, I’m here, I’ve always been here and am, like a pulse, like a rock and a wave, steady, consistent, and, like a glowing ember, warm.

You are coming back to yourself, back into your mind, and that’s okay. But know this. I am here - I am always here. And you are not alone. You are warm.

An afterthought

That was an out-of-body, or rather, in-body experience. I had no agenda other than to simply feel from the perspective of love and see what came up. It’s quite powerful, this inner voice we have, and I invite you to try the same.

Warmly,
Coco @ Sacred Ordinary
